Video Demos and Tutorials

We've produced a series of videos to show you how CatBase works. Start with the quick overview and then view videos relating to your particular area of interest.

The videos are organised into the following categories:

Overviews: Brief demonstrations of the program's features
Getting Started: Detailed movies covering specific topics relating to setting up your database, such as setting up tables and fields and designing your data entry forms.
Using CatBase: Detailed movies showing you how to use specific features, such as importing data and creating reports.
Publishing: Detailed movies showing you how to prepare for publishing your data and how to complete the publishing project.
Project Examples: Some examples of different types of projects being accomplished with CatBase - eg, Classified Ads, Yellow Pages, etc.

Overviews

Publishing a Catalog and price list	A quick demonstration showing how easy it is to publish a catalogue and price list with CatBase.
Publishing a Catalog using XML	This movie demonstrates how to create an XML file from CatBase and use that to publish a catalogue in InDesign.
Publishing a "White Pages" Telephone Directory	In this example we show you how a "White Pages"-style telephone directory is produced.
Publishing a "Yellow Pages"-style Telephone Directory	This movie shows a Yellow Pages directory being created.

Getting Started with CatBase

Setting up Tables and Fields	The first thing you'll need to do is to define at least one table and some fields. This video shows you how to do that.
Field types	It's important to choose the right type of field for the type of data that will be put into it. This video describes the seven different field types and when each should be used.
Field Properties	You can choose various properties to set for each field - for example, force to uppercase, mandatory entry, select from a choice list, run a script when modified ... these are all described in this video.
Form Design Wizard	Once you've set up your tables and fields, you can place them on your data entry forms via the Form Design Wizard.

Using CatBase

Importing Data	You can import data from practically any source, such as a delimited text file, XML file, or an ODBC data source such as SqlServer. This video describes how to set up an Import Style.
Quick Reports	With Quick Reports you can quickly create columnar reports which can be printed or exported to a delimited text file.

Publishing

Publishing Styles	Publishing Styles tell CatBase what data you want to publish and how you want it sorted and formatted. This video gives an overview of setting up a Publishing Style.
Publishing Projects	With Publishing Projects, you can create a one-click solution to publish your data.
Publishing your data	Once you've set up a Publishing Style and (optionally) a Publishing Project, you're ready to create your publication.
Publishing data from a MySql or Sql Server database	This movie shows how to extract data from an online database such as MySql or SqlServer and publish it as a catalogue, directory, etc.
Publishing to a SQL database	This movie shows how easy it is to update another database, such as a MySql or SQLServer database, from CatBase Data Chameleon Edition.
Exporintg data to a delimited text file	You can easily export data from CatBase to a delimited text format such as csv, tab-delimited, or choose your own field and record delimiters. This video show you how.
Creating hyperlinks in Adobe InDesign documents	You can tell CatBase to build hyperlinks for email addresses and URLs. Tjhis movie shows you how to create hyperlinks manually in an InDEsign document, and how to create them automatically with CatBase.
